"Do your little bit of good where you are; it's those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world."
Desmond Tutu, South African Social Rights Activist, Nobel Prize Winner

Dear Hadley Families,
I can hear the anguished cries of weekly email recipients everywhere, "Where is the recently promised and highly anticipated quote game?" Do not worry faithful readers. You will be given a chance to think and contribute. I selected this week's quote in recognition of National Youth Day in South Africa. This holiday commemorates the Soweto uprising of June 16, 1976 in which South African youth protested the establishment of Afrikaans as the medium of instruction. The uprising is seen by many as a critical turning point in the fight against Apartheid. Do you have a favorite quote from a leader, author, or social rights activist who fought against Apartheid, or racism, injustice, or discrimination in any form? Send it to me. I gave away three recordings of Carl Kassell on a stranger's answering machine last week and I am prepared to give away more.

What People Are Saying About HPS
I mentioned the HA Multicultural Day last week. Here is an excerpt from an email indicating how much our students enjoyed it.
So.... Who just came home from work and told us that today's multicultural fair was awesome? Yup, our son. He observed the hard work by all, especially his teachers who made the day such a great, global success. Thank you, Merci, Terima kasih, Muchas gracias...

I could not really do the next email excerpt justice. The email included an image of the family calendar. On~June 22nd, the family wrote last day of school. One of their children drew a frown (not a smile - a FROWN) on the day.
Our daughter has so enjoyed having Mr.~Driver~she left the message, shown below, on our calendar.
Thanks for a great academic year- Our children couldn't have been happier.
Every week I am reminded, Hadley is a great place to learn and a great place to work.

News and Events HES
Field day was tremendous fun as usual. Thank you PTO and all of the parent volunteers who made it a success.
I had the pleasure of seeing second grade showcase their research projects. Second graders researched an animal, wrote a five paragraph essay on the animal's characteristics, habitat, predators, and other interesting facts. They made a video, performed a song, created habitat dioramas, and wrote a fiction story about their animals. It was terrific. Well done students, Ms. St. Peters, and Ms. Wojtowicz.
Members of the HA Jazz Band performed for HES students~Friday~afternoon. HES students barely escaped me breaking out in a boogie in the cafeteria. We were treated to Earth, Wind, and Fire and other toe-tapping tunes. Thank you Mr. Bartlett and HA musicians. A special thanks to graduates Josh Hyslip and Paul Kosakowski for coming out of HA "retirement" to participate.~

Students in 5C will be writing and performing an end-of-year newscast featuring events/speakers/trips/projects/books/ week.~ The final video will be available to families of 5C students through Google Drive.

The sixth grade class has many end of year activities planned. Please note all events are sponsored by parents and not school sponsored events, except 6th Grade Celebration.
6th Grade Celebration,~Tuesday June 20th at 6:30~at HES - invite only. ~

6th Grade trip to The Brownstone Quarry on~Thursday, June 22nd.~

6th Grade Time Capsule Ceremony following the return of the trip at Hopkins.~

News and Events HA
Next week are final exams for high school students. Students must have a signed form to leave early.
Congratulations to our Students of the Month at HA:
Grade 7 Jared Venditti
Grade 8 Jack Feltovic
Grade 9 Nick Foster
Grade 10 Kiernan Wackerbarth
Grade 11 Miranda Pitta

HA students had a successful fundraiser~on Friday. For one dollar students could duct tape Mr. Beck to the wall. Once again, I wish I could include an image in this email. The effort was so successful, Mr. Beck appeared to dangle off the floor in a nest of intersecting silver strips. Thank you for being a good sport Mr. Beck. You may want to consider this position for lunch duty. It looked comfortable.
